Meet your Mayor and 6 Councillors

Mayor and six Councillors are elected for four-year terms and are the governing body for the District of Sechelt. Council provides leadership and creates policies for the safety, welfare, health and success of our community.

Sechelt is an Electoral Area within the Sunshine Coast Regional District. As such, two members of Council are appointed as Area Directors to represent Sechelt on the Regional District Board, with Directors from the other seven Areas of the lower Sunshine Coast. Mayor John Henderson

Mayor John Henderson

Mayor John Henderson served as mayor of Sechelt between 2011 and 2014.

A chartered accountant and entrepreneur, Mayor Henderson has worked across the globe, eventually settling and calling Sechelt home in 2003. Water, housing, safety and transportation are key areas of importance for John. Between his previous experience as Mayor and experience in business, he has a long history of creating businesses, developing projects, and getting things done.

Mayor Henderson is a co-founder of the Sunshine Coast Electric Vehicle Association and a member of the Sunshine Coast Highway Society, as well as a past chair of the Sechelt & District Chamber of Commerce.
